Hasan wrote: "Department of Defense should allow Muslims [sic] Soldiers the option of being released as 'Conscientious objectors' to increase troop morale and decrease adverse events."
A conveniently self-serving position considering that Hasan himself wanted to evade his military duty, now that he had already got his medical degree completed, at government expense.
I have seen this argument before and it has some major flaws:
1. Military service today is entirely voluntary. That means any Moslem is free to never join in the first place. Joining means that he or she is OK with killing anyone that his superiors say. That is why people join the Army and not the Peace Corps.
2. Guys like Hasan are medical professionals, so they were never at any risk of having to chose to kill fellow Moslems.
3. Other Moslems have a long and honorable history of killing each other, going back all the way to Mohammed (Piss Be Upon Him). In fact, you don't have to look very hard to find a current headline about one Islamic group or another setting off a car bomb and killing lots of other Moslem men, women and children.
4. Maj Hasan made no effort to identify if his potential victims were Moslem. He, in his typical racist mentality, just assumed that, because they were in the US Army, they were all infidels. He assumed this even though the evidence of his own life suggests that SOME people in the military might be "good Moslems".
5. This typical myopic kind of thinking completely ignores that Islam is a significant and growing minority in the USA. They infest every level of government and every major institution of American life, except only Christian churches. They are us. We are them. It is insane for Hasan to identify with Islam as if it is separate and distinct from American life. In America, he has had the freedom to be Moslem, AND prosper among us Christians, even at our expense. How many Christians get full government funded medical school scholarships in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, or Syria? How many Moslem Countries would have put up with his anti-government shit for as long as we have?
6. If we accept MAJ Hasan's premise about Moslems in the Military being a threat, then the logical course of action is not simply to allow them to leave the military, but to bar them from ever getting in. Further, logically, they should be barred from entering the USA for any purpose. Those who are already here and not US citizens should be immediately expelled, and the citizens should be watched continuously by the FBI. MAJ Hasan is, in effect, recommending that the military discriminate against Moslems because they are all out of control whacko terrorists under the skin. Only a Moslem with his impeccable credentials could get away with saying such a thing and not get fired AND irredeemably infuriate the Islamic community. But then, being a Moslem and a mental health professional, he should know better than the rest of us.

A good vent.
To your missive, I add that he seemed to have been "out gassing" or foreshadowing in his suggestions that Moslems in the military can't be trusted.
Kinda like the closet homosexual that hates on homos because he's trying to mask what he really is.
I suspect his cognatve dissonance go t the better of him. He can only spout the hard corps moslem line agains thte infidel before someone calls his bluff and he is forced into action.
Add to that the fact that what passes for moderate islamic sentiment is indistinguishable from bat-shit crazy to Western eyes and we have been taught to tollerate it in the name of Tollerance alone.
